I hate tests

Tests as such don't suck unless they tell you that you suck. This of course didn't come completely unexpectedly. Yes, I'm still not completely over what happened on Sunday but I'm getting there. As hard as it was to write that post, I'm glad I did because your responses certainly put things in perspective. Thank you. I'll never be proud of my performance on Sunday but - hey - shit happens!

What happened since: I woke up with a sore throat on Monday. I woke up with a sore throat on Tuesday. I woke up with a sore throat today. I also have this cough since Sunday and a very high rest heart rate in the mornings, no other symptoms. Yes, I've got a reasonably good idea what this means.

I had a very overdue threshold test scheduled for Tuesday and wasn't going to bludge. The warm up went alright but I didn't go through with the 20 min test. Seven minutes into the test I stopped. My power output was below my previous functional threshold power and my heart rate wouldn't go up despite the perceived exertion being very high. That I even attempted the test might have something to do with Sunday's experience. I was pushing the point, trying to proof that I can ride hard. I couldn't!

Today I came home from work and again got on the windtrainer. Sometimes I just wish I wasn't as competitive, or stubborn ... some may call it stupid. Today I pushed through the entire 20 minute time trial. My functional threshold power was slightly below the previous test result.

Maybe I will just keep testing day after day until the result improves?

I'm kidding. I will schedule a test again when my sore throat is gone and my rest heart rate is back to normal.

I called the medical centre today to see if my latest blood test results had come in. They told me that they couldn't tell me the result over the phone and that I needed to come in. I didn't like the sound of that.

Chin up Groover!

Sometimes an unexpected result is good for helping you to refocus and redefine your goals.

Don't take your eyes off what you are aiming for (ToB if I was to venture a guess) - maybe what you need is a recovery week and to let your body recharge and rebuild some immunity.

I know the temptation is strong to keep flogging away and upping the training load, but this might take you further away from what you're aiming for.

Anyway enough drivel from me. Rest up, look after yourself, hope to see you firing on the bike when you're good and ready.

can't tell you the results over the phone? that usually means something is not quite right.

rest up - get well. health is way more important than bike test results

Groover, sometimes taking a step back is worth three steps forward. Sounds corny I know...but get yourself better, follow up on your tests in person and know that you are capable of great things....just get better first... xoxox

This is standard policy to protect your privacy. It prevents others from ringing up and getting your private information(results).

...hoping that the lab's format of not being able to reveal anything over the phone is simply procedural...either way, wishing the very best for you, kiddo...

...you're too good to keep down for long...

...& i'm gonna ride you here a bit but as a good coach you gotta use the old gamblers adage, "know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em"...

...you're well aware of how valuable rest is for even healthy bodies & you're very aware of how intense you can be...

...that's it...i won't say anything more about it 'cuz you know what's up...

...but i will wish you my best again...

Ant - Temptation is too strong, indeed! Recovery week? What from? I just had three unplanned recovery weeks in a row. LOL

Lisa - If I was a cynic I would say that in this case it probably just meant: Let's make more money by asking people to come in rather than telling them over the phone that nothing is wrong!

Kate - Yes, all is well, apart from the sore throat and high rest heart rate.

Lily - Thanks heaps. According to doctor I AM perfectly healthy.

Boz - Thanks and your were right. However, nobody checked my ID or even my medicare card so how would they have possibly known that it was me in person getting the result? Just saying ...

bgw - Yeap, can't keep me down for long. Let the training begin ...

Judi - I hate rest! (possibly as much as Bluenoser hates boats!)
